HISTORY OF THE VILLAGE
The history of the village dates back to the 13. century where it is mentioned as one of the 63 settlements of the Spytihněvsko region (name Potowaritz). The first written mention about the autonomous village of Potvorov dates back to the year 1704 and since 1924 it has got its current name. The settlement developed from wine cellars under vineyards which is backed up also by a seal from the year 1779. As the history suggests it was an agricultural village orientated predominantly on grapevine growing which is kept up to the present.
With its location at an altitude of 220-250 metres and less than 1000 inhabitants it ranks among middlesized villages.
The village of Starý Poddvorov is part of the Southern Moravian region called Podluží and it is widely renowned for its folk costumes embroidery and original dialect.
If you visit this village you will meet helpful hospitality of local inhabitants. The dominant feature of the village is a bell tower from the year 1770.
It is impossible to overlook the windmill of ram´s type, with an all-wood construction that
dates back to the year 1870. Thanks to the ingenious construction of the machine set the whole mill was rotary so that the vanes were always on the wind side. In the year 2003 a total reconstruction of this historic sight was done that gives us a true look at a facility where products of daily living were processed in the past.

In the year In the field of folk creativeness the village is renowned for its folk costumes embroidery. The local diligent women create the beauty of shirts, special sleeves and aprons.
Another tradition that was preserved in our vilage is the engraving of Easter eggs. The technique of ornament creation and dying is a kind of "trade secret" of every author.
